Stomach Reflux Facts

April 11, 2009 – 12:01 am

When it comes to stomach reflux, there are many facts and many myths. We are going to go over some of these so that you can have a better understanding of acid reflux, and how to stop it.

One of the most prominent myths is that eating spicy foods causes heartburn, and drinking milk stops it. Researchers from Stanford University actually found that drinking milk will not relieve heartburn, and eating spicy foods will not cause it. The good news is that you can keep eating spicy foods if they are something you love. The bad news is that you cannot reach for a glass of milk and hope to get rid of stomach reflux symptoms.

Another myth is that taking antacids at the first sign of heartburn will cure it. This is definitely a myth! Taking an antacid might make you a little more comfortable now but it is not doing anything to cure reflux. If anything, it can actually make it worse.

What Are the Causes of Reflux?

April 7, 2009 – 12:01 am

One of the most prevalent causes for reflux is diet. Reflux is a disease of the digestive system, so it is going to react based on what you put into it. If your diet consists of mainly fatty foods, this might be the cause. During digestion, your stomach will churn up acid and release it into the esophagus. From there it causes a sometimes intense burning sensation in the throat or the chest. If you eat a lot of acidic foods or fatty and fried foods the stomach will have to produce more acid than normal to break it down.

When you experience pain in your body, it is telling you that something is wrong. If you find that you get heartburn on a regular basis, then you have to change something in order for it to go away for good. This might be your body telling you that your diet is one of the causes of reflux. Avoiding overly fatty foods and sticking with fat free foods and lean meats is going to do a lot for you. According to Heartburn No More, if you want to cure this disease the you will need to take on a holistic approach.
